Then and Now
Hello, my name is Madhelin. let me introduce a little bit of myself. I came from Papua, well actually I’m not pure Papuan, I am Maluku, but was born and raised in Papua so, every time someone asked me where I came from? I will answer Papua automaticly. Currently, I’m taking English Literature in Binus University. My parents are from Maluku. They’re not working anymore, so they just stayed at home. I have 3 siblings : 1 older brother and 2 older sisters. My second sister has already married and have 3 children while my other siblings are still single.
Anyway, let’s start. What I want to tell you, is about my feelings on how I first came to Jakarta for studying and now. And it’s a very short story.
I was 18 years old when I first immigrating to Jakarta. At first, I didn’t have enough courage to go alone because I don’t have any relative at all in Jakarta. Also, I’m a quite introvert girl, so I don’t talk much. Jump to the first day of FEP now. Because I’m an introvert girl, I don’t have many friends, everyone in the class tries to know each other, while I’m staying in my chair, not having conversations with others. Maybe it’s because I came from a place, you can say “local place” so I’m scared to talk to “city kid” because we have so much difference in talking, expressing ourself, etc.
Compare to the situation now, I have friends, i can talk more freely with them, less introvert than before. It’s because I tried to adapt to the situation and people around me, I push myself to talk first even if it’s awakward to start. But if i’m not then i will be in a difficult situation for not having friends or someone i can talk to.
Well that’s all for now. Thank you 🙂
