The Common Issues in English Education : Using Technology in Teaching English

Abstract

Nowadays, the field of language in teaching has more becomings a scientific and academic disciplines. More particularly, English language teaching has parted of the language itself in the world. The organization, publication, institution, etc. Use ELT clearly to indicate that the use of this language has not remained static, only the opposite. As the needed for English language competency develops, efforts to support students learning English can also change. Because English is a language that is not used in daily communication, and the variety of students language competence, the use of English in a foreign language classroom has also became another point to encourage the student’s for learning foreign language acquisition. Is it important to use English all the time during the lessons? How should teachers avoid misunderstandings in English classes?

How to deal with the problems and challenges in teaching English

English is a language that is used in news, advertisement and films in the world including the non English-speaking countries. In addition, English has become the important issue in the world of  employment especially. Moreover, technology has also influenced the way English is taught in schools. Most the teachers faced many problems with the students for teaching English, one of the most common problems is limited teaching resources. The teachers faced this kind of situation, the resouces which are provided for delivering the English lectures to the student to learning it effectively. The problem become difficult for the teachers to teach without any resources. If they have some resource such as speakers, mike, projectors, computer system or maybe other kinds of digital devices, it might be made the overall teaching environment more interesting and helps the student in learning the English language.

In this case, to deal with the problem might be the development of the internet. It has encouraged teachers to take some advantages of it. By using technology in teaching English, there is potentials for the students who come from the the non English speaking countries to learn the language. Use the internet-based to requires the student to work intensively with computers. They will have to read, write, listen and even speak to the computer that connected to the internet. This kind of situation, is the example of how the technology advancement has influenced many aspects if life including the teching English area to speakers of other language. There is one study by Shang (2009) that he introduces animated computer software called Chatterbots, which “can engage the learners in the computer-simulated human-human interaction” (p.269).  

Development of technology can be a problematic event for teaching and learning. As Evans (2008) said that, technology can provides teachers with big ideas and they can also use the technology to enhance the practice in the classroom. But, not all teachers know how to use those technology to imporove their teaching methods. However, the technology use in the classroom is unavoidable in the future.

In conclusion, the fact that English has become global and used as the official languahe in the world has made teaching English for speakers more and more interesting to research. By finding the right methods for teaching can make students learnig English more effectively. Most educators believe that communicative language teaching is the most efficient way fro learning English.
